TAUNTON LIGHTS SWITCH-ON 2021
Above is a video showing last night’s switch-on ceremony, including some of the ad-libbed ‘bits’ onstage during the ‘emergency’ break in proceedings – update below.
Onstage in the switch-on ceremony in order of appearance were: Father Christmas along with his mischievous Elf and Mrs Christmas of course. Mrs Somerset Galaxy 2020/21 (Dionne John) with her daughter Keira (Miss Pre Teen Galaxy Ireland). The Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Sue Lees and her deputy, Cllr Brenda Weston. Finally came our special guests Mia – Miss Junior Sensational UK 2021 (Mia Jarrold) and Paralympic Bronze medalist and local celebrity, Hannah Taunton. Both young ladies chosen to switch on the lights this year. Then there’s me (John Hunt), doing the honours on the microphone.
A very special mention and a big thank you, to the wonderful Marvin Muoneké and Luís Carlos, who not only performed their own ‘slots’ superbly, but also filled in some unavoidable gaps in the schedule. Here is a taster video of their brilliant performances together….
A happy ending – Those of you that were amongst the thousand that attended, will know that there was a long delay so that someone could receive medical treatment in an Ambulance next to the stage. The great news is that the young lady is now safely home after spending Sunday night in hospital. In a Facebook post her mother praised the “team of helpers that supported me and my family last night at the switch on” and highlighted the assistance given by the “police and paramedics that somehow made a path through all those people for the ambulance to get through. We really appreciated everyone’s help.”
On a personal note, I’d like to thank Cathryn for her brilliant videos that have been used to create this memory for us all to enjoy and share. Great work Cathryn
