An open letter to Somerset County Council, the Orchard Grove developers and Avon and Somerset Police.
Good evening.
Could I please ask someone/anyone to take responsibility for the pothole on the A38 (eastbound) at the new roundabout under construction, to serve the Orchard Grove development.
It needs signs warning motorists NOW and of course must be repaired quickly and properly, NOT bodged as when ‘repaired’ last week.
Somerset County Council, you say it’s the responsibility of the developers. If this is the case, tell them to sort it out now please, or at least go out there and get some warning signs up. I have also emailed you.
Avon and Somerset Police, I’ve called you three times this evening on 101 and been told I must contact the council. I contact the council, they say, out of hours call 101. To say this is unacceptable is an understatement.
On my last call to you, I was able to leave my number and did at least receive a call back at 9pm. After a lot of convincing, your operator was prepared to call the out of hours council number for highways, however would not give any assurances that a patrol would be sent out to the site to assess the situation and warn motorists with signs etc.
This evening is wet, the road at the location is muddy, narrow, busy and in my opinion, dangerous.
Incident number AS-20210107-0830
Lindon Homes, Bovis Homes, Taylor Wimpey – is this your responsibility? If so, let’s please get this sorted out.
This is an utterly absurd situation and needs to be resolved urgently.
Regards
Cllr John Hunt
