For this month’s Community News article (May 2017), I wanted publicise the whereabouts and benefits of the Frank Bond Centre.
Many Bishop’s Hull residents that I’ve spoken to recently had absolutely no idea where the Frank Bond Centre was situated. Most had heard about it, but many people had not been there.

To be fair, it is a little tucked away, however this is very much a hidden gem and one well worth discovering.

Where is the Frank Bond Centre?
Turn off Silk Mills Road into Mountway Road and next left into Walnut Close. Follow the Close around to the left and the Centre will be there in front of you. If you carry on through the gates, a large car park is available on the right.

Why go there?
Amongst the activities available are: Painting, Whist, Family History Club, Croquet (having my first try soon), Petanque (the French game of Boules), Board games, Parchment club, Singles group, Music circle, Bridge and German.

You’re more than welcome to visit and try out a session to see if you like it.

Lunch Club is held on the third Thursday of each month, this is my favourite. I went along in March and there must have been 30 of us, all enjoying a lovely meal and some great company.

From 10 til 12 every Friday is ‘Frank’s Cafe’. I would strongly recommend this as your introduction to the Centre, just turn up for a cuppa, please don’t worry if you’re on your own, many of us are and you will be made very welcome.

There will be an Open day at the Centre from 2pm on Saturday 17th June 2017. All are welcome. Teas will be served.

I’d like to thank the trustees and members for introducing me to this wonderful ‘hidden gem’.
