For November’s Community News article, I popped up to Bishop’s Hull Primary School to have a chat with our hard-working Headteacher Rachel White.

Having recently seen Rachel at the Taunton Flower Show, where she’d won a Silver Gilt in the ‘designer garden’ category, I wanted to find out more.

Rachel explained that she and her mother had been invited to take part, followed their trophy win in the ‘Ready Steady Garden’ category the previous year.
In this year’s ‘designer’ competition, entrants were given five days in which to create a garden from scratch. One competitor choosing a Florist shop theme, another was themed on a Wedding, however Rachel wanted a design that people could re-create in their own back gardens.

In her design, Rachel included a path leading to a seated area at the bottom of the garden. Along the way, there was a place to put down your mobile phone and diary, a space to collect much needed refreshment and pots of herbs to add flavour to your evening meal.
A perfectly designed garden in which to relax at the end of a very busy day and clearly deserving of the Silver Gilt.

Many congratulations on your gardening successes Rachel and thank you for making me so welcome.
