Bishop’s Hull Platinum Jubilee Celebrations – Thursday 2nd June. The day started with our intrepid band of volunteers collecting the marquee and tables in readiness for Friday morning, when they’ll be put in place on the playing field for Friday’s Fete and Saturday’s dinner dance. Today’s celebrations started with a car boot sale on the playing field at 7am. This was followed at 10:30am by a coffee (cream tea) morning at the Meryan House Hotel. Between 12 and 2, I walked around the village judging the magnificent entries in our ‘nursery rhyme’ themed scarecrow competition. At 2pm it was a pleasure to join those celebrating the Jubilee at the millennium garden, by holding a 50s style event with music from the time and serving tea, coffee and of course cake. Straight afterwards it was off to a ‘sold out’ Frank Bond Centre cream tea garden party. Guests were richly entertained by local Morris Men and there were Garden Games, which proved very popular, including croquet & petanque (not sure I’ve spelt that correctly). Then it was home for very brief break from festivities, before joining a well attended evening quiz at the Constitutional Club. A fabulous day to begin the Platinum Jubilee. Here’s a photographic summary of the day…
