On Monday 12th December 2016, the Mayor of Taunton Deane, Councillor Vivienne Stock-Williams, invited everyone to join her at her Christmas Carol Concert, held at St Mary Magdalene Church in the centre of Taunton.

My voluntary role for the evening was to welcome and hand out the order of service sheets to those attending.
The rather moving service was led by Revd Rod Clarke and the Organist was Miles Quick.

We were very lucky to hear carols sung by the excellent King’s College Chapel Choir and the all-ladies acapella group, the Apple County Chorus. You may remember me covering them before and here’s a link to a video taken at the time – Link

At the end of the service, we were all invited for light refreshments at the back of the church, which was a nice opportunity to have a chat with Revd Rod Quick. He was kind enough to take me into a cordoned off area, where I was able to take a few photos of the very impressive new bells. The largest of the 12 (first photo below), the Tenor weighs in at an incredible 27 cwt (1371 kgs). The bell is named ‘Elizabeth’ to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
